GENRE: New Adult
THEME: Romance, Contemporary, and Mature

BLURB:
Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken. She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans. But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up. While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them.

With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own — a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured. But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

REVIEW:

The title says it all. Perfectly Broken focuses on many emotional triggers such as, fear, trust, family betrayal, and finding happiness. Lane does a great job with writing two complex and broken leads that struggle with pasts that they are judged or scarred from, the readers with root for their happiness.

Perfectly Broken follows Peyton a young woman who hides from the world; she is scarred from a terrible incident in college that changed her life. She is trying to move on with her life, she even opened up her own shop making pies in her town New Orleans. But what she doesn’t expect is the very handsome playboy Reed, friend of her best friends boyfriend who can’t seems to take her rejection. Reed finds Peyton irresistible and the first woman he could really care for. Together they discover love; trust and maybe they’ll be able to heal what’s been broken.

Peyton was a young innocent student when she was in college; he life drastically changed after someone hurt her. Since then she has been scarred and trying to hide from the pain of memories. Luckily her best friend Quinn is always by her side and hoping one day she’ll open up again. While working in her pie shop she comes face to face with Reed Langston, a man who has her weak in the knees. But with his bad rep, she isn’t sure this charmer is someone to trust. But his persistent and cute nagging has Peyton giving him a chance. I adored Reeds insistence to take Peyton on a date, it was cute and you can tell he only saw the good in her and wasn’t looking for some random girl to hook up with. She has lots of walls up and Reed is the only one besides Quinn who seems to connect with her and finally break down the shield.

Reed isn’t a perfect guy, he has been with a lot of women and isn’t proud of it. When he meets Peyton he sees a woman of beauty and sweetness, someone who surprised him and may be the one who can heal his heart. He’s consistently compared to his terrible father and hates it, he knows of the man’s disgusting past and cant stand be compared to him. I felt so bad for Reed every time his father talked to him, you can just feel the hate and that his father only cared about himself. Then there is Heather, the one girl who wants Reed because their fathers forced them together. She is such a terrible person too; that I was so happy Peyton found his way to him and took him from all the horrible people. Luckily he has his best friend Brent and his sweet as a button mother to bring some light in his life along with Peyton.

Overall this was an emotional and passionate love story, the pace was perfect and actually it was a longer read than I expected. There are bumps in the road, but no relationship or person is perfect and that is what made this story so real. My only issues was with Peyton at some point judging something that I felt was off from her persona, I would of thought better of her. But in the end I was happy with the results and that not matter how broken someone is there is always a way to heal. The romance perfect, going from sweet, to passionate to lots of heat, these two lead have great chemistry. The secondary characters are wonderful and help the leads through their tough times. I look forward to more writing from Lane and highly recommend this to romance readers.

RECOMMENDATION:

  1. This sounds like such a moving and emotional read. Peyton and Reed both sound like great and complex characters, too, and I love how they seem to help each other. Great review, Kristen!
