BLURB:
In TIMESPELL, the brash and impulsive Julia must team up with her sweet and straight-laced best friend, Angie, and the malicious and power-hungry Kaitlyn in order to keep the witch-like powers of her inheritance. But these powers come at a cost. The girls are bound to serve the Fates, and their first mission sends them back in time to Marie Antoinette’s Paris and eventually, into the chaos and war of the French Revolution.

REVIEW:
This was a bundle of fun, three teenage girls given tasks to use magic and fight mythical creatures throughout time? Yep, that’s my kind of story and I really enjoyed the development and challenges each girl had to go through as they learned about their fates.

Timespell follows Angie and Julia, two best friends that discovered their destiny’s as two of the three fates. Their destiny lies with finding their third sister and then they will be given all their powers to fight the evil creatures through out time. But when fate brings their new sister to them, it’s not whom they thought, the mean girl of the school and she’s about to make things very difficult. In the end they must work together to complete their tasks and become the fates they were destined to be.

Julia was my favorite of the three, she is sarcastic, blunt and I felt the strongest out of the three. She really holds her own and is the one that uses her power the most and has more control. Angie is the oldest of the three and the most composed, and conservative, she knows the most about their destinies as fates. Then there is Kaitlyn, the wild mean girl who has never gotten along with Angie or Julia, she is very selfish and not a likable character. They are given tasks as fates to go back in time and stop creatures (monsters of mythos) and evil sorceresses that would alter history. Their first mission takes them to the time of Marie Antoinette and they must protect her and adapt to the time. I loved this little bit of history and how they interacted with her.

The main secondary character is Ethan; he is their protector and someone who can be summoned only by Julia. When we first meet him there is an obvious connection to Julia and I loved figuring out how they connect in the very end. There is also David who is Angie’s boyfriend, who is trying to make up for a very big mistake through out the whole book.

Overall I enjoyed this fast paced fantasy story. The character development is fantastic, the readers really get to see into each girl and understand why they are who they are. My only issue was the drama kind of got annoying, they fought so much that it sometimes got distracting from what they were suppose to be doing. Luckily near the end it lessened but three lead female characters bickering half the time, isn’t very fun to read about. They do have a lot to learn and even from each other, their fate is in their hands and there will always be someone trying to stop them from completing their tasks. There is lots of romance, which at times frustrated me to no end, but I love the spark and chemistry nonetheless.

In the end my favorite part was how each girl was so different from each other, plus they each had a unique power that was seriously needed to fight. I’m hoping there is a second book, but this story does give a satisfying ending that wont leave you hanging. This was a great debut novel from Paz and I look forward to reading more of her work.

EXCERPT:
She glanced at where he sat on his bed, surprised to find him watching her, studying her as she searched his phone bill. Her cheeks burned.

“Got it,” she murmured, closing the browser windows and shutting his laptop. “I have to go.”

David crossed the room as she stood. He caught her arm. The contact startled her.

“Angie,” he whispered. “Angel.”

She didn’t make mention of her old nickname. She wanted him to know how much she loved hearing it on his lips, but some small part of her remained terrified. His hand came up to caress her cheek. His gaze was vulnerable, but he held her firmly in his arms. He lowered his head and pulled her close.

Her breathing hitched.

“I think I counted on that kiss,” he murmured, so close she could feel his warmth on her mouth.

His eyes darkened to almost indigo. Heat pumped out from her chest in rapid waves. They hadn’t kissed since before their break-up. Only a fraction of an inch separated them now, but he remained still, keeping his promise to go at her pace. He would hold back if it killed him. That was David’s way. She didn’t want him to hold back anymore. She wanted him to kiss her until she couldn’t remember her own name. She wanted to feel his lips on her mouth, to taste him and feel him and be his all over again.
